40. Connect with Muppets and maani

855

Midtown’s Center for Puppetry Arts—the country’s largest puppet facility—offers masterful programming for kids (The Little Pirate Mermaid) and adults (Tales of Edgar Allan Poe; see page 22), but its exhibits dedicated to Jim Henson, who cut the ribbon at the 1978 opening, will delight any age group. There’s more than Muppets here; tour the permanent exhibition, which includes such marvels as a Javanese shadow puppet made of water buffalo hide and maani, carved marionettes from Mali. puppet.org
