Festival of the month
Chihuly at Art Basel
During this month’s Art Basel Miami Beach (12/4–7), Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden once again welcomes a major exhibition by Dale Chihuly. The glass artist installed his work here seven years ago, but this show will debut new works set against the dramatic tropical foliage of lush cycads, tall palms, vibrant bromeliads, and floating water lilies. The display opens December 6 and runs through the end of May.

Ginger & Spice
The National Gingerbread House Competition
, the nation’s largest such event, returns to Asheville’s Omni Grove Park Inn this holiday season. Check out confections shaped like castles, cottages, and chalets, as well as whimsical creatures like mermaids, pandas, and carousel ponies. More than 150 edible designs are on display throughout the newly renovated historic resort, which celebrated its centennial in 2013.
