For Atlanta’s intrepid diners, there’s more to finding hidden gems than veering off the beaten path, though that certainly adds to the intrigue. The challenge is in uncovering food treasures. We set out to find lesser-known destinations, from obscure restaurants and takeout shacks to underground bars, food trucks, and gas station finds.

Features include a television, a built-in kegerator, and (of course) plenty of spirits. “There’s even a secret door behind the bar that leads to a hidden golf simulator and media room,” says interior designer Karen Ferguson of Harrison Design Associates.

“When partygoers make it into a kitchen, they tend to never leave,” says interior designer Courtney Giles Decker. To route guests elsewhere in her own home, she turned a hallway into a bar, drawing people into a space fully stocked for cocktail hour.
