Hertz has served as president and CEO of United Distributors, the largest alcoholic beverage wholesaler in Georgia and Alabama, since 1984, when he took on the position first occupied by his grandfather 75 years ago. In addition to running the family business, Hertz is founder and chairman of Camp Twin Lakes, which offers camp programs for sick and disabled children; a former board chairman of Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta; and a major arts donor.

Musical chairs As chairman of the Woodruff Arts Center board, Hertz was criticized in 2014 by locked-out Atlanta Symphony Orchestra musicians for playing hardball over salary negotiations.
