The superheroes in this spiffy redo are paint and fabric, two relatively inexpensive investments with a lot of power. The Peachtree City home office once languished with cherry cabinets and gold wall paint until local design firm Steiner Pope came to the rescue.

Bright idea
A large light fixture by Visual Comfort gets the scale right but still feels airy.

Floor solutions
Custom-sized rugs solve the problem of an asymmetrical room. “This wool rug from Myers Carpet added comfort and subtle pattern,” says designer Dana Pope.

Dragon dynamics
“Our initial inspiration for the room was the fun ‘Chiang Mai Dragon’ fabric by Schumacher on the chair backs,” says Kerry Steiner. “This spring-boarded the design with the gorgeous blue.”

Cabinet position
A built-in wall cabinet was well-constructed, so the designers had it coated with a custom blue to match the leather desk chair, added new hardware, and installed grasscloth in display areas.

Dream desk
This “love at first sight” desk from CFC Furniture is made of reclaimed Douglas fir and finished with a gray-wash wax.

Tip
Reupholster accent chairs with a fun fabric on the back, if that side is most visible. These designers repainted two chairs and used three different fabrics on the front, back, and seat.
