Heritage-PrepHeritage is a distinctive, classical Christ-centered school located on a beautiful, twelve-acre campus in Midtown Atlanta. Classes are small, ensuring that each student receives individual attention. Class days are shorter in the Lower School to ensure quality time at home. The content of Heritage’s curriculum is classical in that it emphasizes timeless works of literature, music, art, drama, history, Latin, logic, science, and mathematics. Teachers incorporate the methodology of the educator Charlotte Mason by focusing on good habits, nature studies, and joyful discovery in learning. Heritage teachers are gifted professionals who are committed followers of Jesus Christ.

Heritage believes that early development of a disciplined lifestyle provides a solid foundation for a responsible and productive life in a complex modern world. Heritage graduates have a proven track record of being accepted into Atlanta’s top private high schools. Heritage is fully accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS); a member of ACSI, ACCS, and National Junior Honor Society; and a participant in the Duke Talent Identification Program (TIP).

Bantam + Biddy

The original Ansley Mall location of Shaun Doty and Lance Gummere’s rotisserie chicken joint feels like a next-generation meat-and-two. The menu sprawls with sandwiches, salads, and entrees such as meatloaf with smoked tomato gravy or sauteed salmon with dill-mustard sauce. But you can’t go wrong with the star attraction—crisp-skinned and precisely salted chicken—or the pork schnitzel scattered with grilled onions, peanuts, and shaved Parmesan. Choose sides that lean toward the Southern lexicon, like rice and beans or collards (an occasional special). For breakfast, go for the fried chicken and waffles: Its keenly engineered balance of sweet and savory served as a prototype dish for the duo’s follow-up restaurant, Chick-a-Biddy, in Atlantic Station

Atmosphere

0
Despite the name, the food is more distinctive than the ambience in this lovable French restaurant, located in a cottage with a charming terrace near Ansley Mall.

Fat Matt’s Rib Shack

0
The uncitified atmosphere (with blues playing nightly) and the straightforward menu with zero gourmet trappings have earned this twenty-year-old institution national attention—and all the debate that accompanies such notice. Come here if you want nothing more than a plate of ribs, which arrive blackened, moderately caramelized, modestly smoky, and altogether satisfying.

Green Sprout

File this one under the tastes-way-better-than-it-sounds category: Dishes such as stir-fried Yukon gold potatoes with garlic and preserved greens and dry-fried string beans with spicy fermented tofu exemplify what’s best about Buddhist-style vegetarian Chinese cooking. Kind servers make up for the austere digs.
