Nearly two years after FX first ordered the pilot for Atlanta, Donald Glover’s TV series centered around two cousins navigating the city’s hip-hop scene, the 10-episode first season is set to premiere on September 6. After releasing a string of abstract, disjointed 15-second teasers, FX has dropped a new, complete trailer that gives a clearer sense of what the series is all about. Filmed and set in Atlanta, the show follows Earnest “Earn” Meeks (Glover) as he manages his cousin Paper Boi’s (Brian Tyree Henry) budding rap career. The series also stars Zazie Beetz as Van, Earn’s friend and the mother of his child, and Lakeith Stanfield as Darius, a confidant of Paper Boi.

“The thesis with the show was kind of to show people how it felt to be black,” Glover said during a press tour for the Television Critics Association, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

Despite the fact that the show is all about rappers in Atlanta, don’t expect to see Glover rapping under his stage moniker Childish Gambino on-screen. “That would be so weird. I wouldn’t have enjoyed that,” Glover said at the TCA tour.
