Juniors and seniors at the Marist School now have a class devoted exclusively to unearthing the past. The new archaeology program is a hands-on, discussion-based course that culminates in a comprehensive research project and conference where students share their work. Along the way, students have the opportunity to explore leading discoveries, mysteries, and controversies in the archaeological world , surveying scientific and theoretical advances from the Renaissance through today. Specific topics vary according to students’ interests and are supported by guest speakers and optional field trips. This fall, students will hear from Jessica Betz Abel, the Andrew W. Mellon advanced fellow in Objects Conservation at Emory University’s Michael C. Carlos Museum, and Steven Tuck, professor and chair of classics at Miami University in Ohio, who will speak on Etruscan archaeology. marist.com
