Fashion and design greats visit Atlanta this week for SCADstyle
This week, Atlanta welcomes some big-name fashion and design visionaries. Today through Thursday, SCAD will host the 11th annual SCADstyle—a weeklong event of panels, talks, and presentations at the art college’s campuses in Atlanta, Savannah, and Hong Kong. Events are free and open to the public.
SCADfash museum opens in Midtown with Oscar de la Renta exhibit
Atlanta is landing its own museum to display SCAD’s many fashion exhibitions. Opening in Midtown on October 2, it will include a 10,000-square-foot gallery space, which kicks off with an adaptation of the Oscar de la Renta exhibition we ogled this spring in Savannah.
Swamps Élysées: Meet the Queen of Gator, Georgia’s Christy Plott Redd
Christy Plott Redd says she likes to take the fancy out of fashion, but on a recent afternoon in Manhattan—her auburn hair falling in carefully curled waves beneath a mink hat, her eyelashes pressed into thick half-moons over shadowed lids—the fancy was very much on display. She wheeled behind her a suitcase the size of a small car. Inside were dozens of alligator skins, samples she was toting around to sell to big-name fashion designers.
SCAD pays tribute to Oscar de la Renta
Through May 3, the SCAD Museum of Art in Savannah is showing "Oscar de la Renta: His Legendary World of Style," an exhibition curated by the designer’s close friend—and SCAD board member—André Leon Talley.
