Inspired by their own world travels, husband-wife duo Jerry and Gayle Murdock opened Valhalla Resort Hotel earlier this year to bring the comfort of their favorite hotels to the North Georgia mountains they call home. The Helen hotel takes cues from the romance of a Scottish castle.

“There are plenty of rustic and quaint hotels here in the mountains, but we wanted to provide a luxury experience,” says Gayle, an interior designer.

The pet-friendly resort, which also offers a rooftop bar, spa, and wine cellar, sits on five acres. All 25 rooms, which start at $395 a night, are king suites with mountain views, mini bars, and 24/7 room service. There’s plenty of Peach State presence in this Scottish-inspired property, too: Pieces from local artists such as Dona K. Burke, who uses natural elements like antlers and driftwood in her pottery, are displayed throughout and available for purchase in Valhalla’s gift shop.
