Shoot the ‘hooch

Lazy Atlanta summers are best enjoyed lathered in sunscreen, idling downstream in an inflatable tube, and reaching for a cooler floating slowly behind you on the Chattahoochee River. For a relatively low sum, aspiring bobbers can rent a tube from some half-dozen outfitters and join the time-honored tradition of shooting the ‘hooch. Some of the companies also offer drop-off service at popular spots such as Abbots Bridge Park and Powers Island Park. If spending hours resting in an inflatable raft isn’t to your liking, renting a kayak or stand-up paddleboard is also an option. Feel free to use your own floating device as well, but remember to leave the glass at home, bring a life jacket (they’re required), and call 770-945-1466 to check whether Buford Dam has released any water beforehand.
