After about a year and a half in Avondale Estates, the Bishop will close its doors by November 29. “It’s simply a work-life balance decision,” owner Luellen Marshall says. “It wasn’t working for my family.” The restaurant and bar may close sooner, depending on how quickly the existing inventory gets used up. “Luckily we’ve been very busy,” Marshall says.

Marshall might relocate the Bishop, which wouldn’t happen for some time, or she may retire. “I just need to get some balance and gain some perspective. The Bishop has been lovely, but it has taken a lot of my time,” she says.

Giving her staff notice rather than abruptly closing has allowed many to find new employment, she says. Chef Zachary Marcoux will be working at JP Atlanta, in the Hotel Indigo downtown, and taking some of the Bishop line cooks with him. No word yet on who will take over the space once Marshall moves out. “Opening the restaurant was everything I wanted it to be and more. I hope someone with as much love and passion for Avondale as I had will take over the space and help support the neighborhood,” Marshall says.
