Sweet Hut

Fetching purple tables and chairs and sleek, long, serve-yourself cases filled with dozens of baked goods attract the laptop brigade to this newcomer in Asian Square.

Unlike Korean bakeries, where the focus is mostly on sweets, this Chinese-Malaysian concept has many more savory options, from fried octopus balls to curry buns and pastries filled with winter melon or, in the case of a treat called the Black Pig, slices of Spam. Bubble teas, smoothies, and iced coffees cool on a sweltering day. The almond crisps and egg custard tarts are among the best in town. Note to night owls: The bakery stays open until 2 a.m. on weekends.
