The Way We Work: How Atlantans are Ditching the 9-to-5
5 side gigs for earning extra cash in Atlanta
Keep your day job. We’ve rounded up five Atlanta gigs that allow you to make a decent chunk of change in your spare time
1. Rover
ATL pet lovers can build a part- or full-time business with Rover by caring for furry friends while their owners are away. Craft a profile on the platform with your rates, availability, and what services you’d like to offer (think walking, boarding). The most active employees can make up to $1,000 per month.
2. SitterTree
Founded in 2000 by an Oglethorpe University sophomore, SitterTree offers the chance for experienced sitters to nanny on demand for families across the metro area. After passing a comprehensive background check and meeting with a SitterTree coordinator, you’ll have access to job postings that will score you $14+ per hour.
3. Postmates
As a member of the Postmates driving “Fleet,” you’ll deliver everything from meals to makeup. It’s perfect for students with extra time or people returning to the workforce. Atlanta couriers receive a minimum base payout of $4 per route, plus bonuses and 100 percent of tips (averaging more than $18 hourly).
4. Turo
Passive income alert: Turo will rent out your car. The app’s “Carculator” computes your car’s rental price, or you can set the daily rate yourself. After listing your vehicle on the site, approve or decline requests from travelers—and keep 65 to 90 percent of the trip price.
5. SpareHire
Got corporate cred? Professionals with more than two years of experience in fields like marketing, investment management, and corporate development can apply to become part of SpareHire’s network. Consulting firms and startup businesses alike scour the database to find candidates for interim roles and projects. Professionals with one to three years of experience can expect to make at least $75 per hour; those with 10 years or more can earn $225+ per hour. —Olivia Hancock
