Atlanta’s first talk radio station launched national voices

SWRNG-AM or “Ring Radio” on 680 AM was Atlanta’s first talk radio station. Introduced in 1967, it kick-started the careers of humorist Ludlow Porch, Skip Caray, and Neal Boortz—a frequent morning show caller who got his big break when host Herb Elfman died unexpectedly. The frequency is now home to “680 The Fan.”
