Georgia’s senior U.S. senator commands respect from both sides of the aisle. The Marietta Republican has capitalized on his popularity; he’s currently the only senator chairing two committees. One of those assignments has led Isakson to demand reforms over the dysfunctional U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. More recently, he’s criticized President Obama’s Iran deal and has advocated for long-term highway funding.

Can’t stop Despite a diagnosis of Parkinson’s disease, he plans to run for reelection in 2016.
