MISSION
Camp Kudzu’s mission is to educate, empower, and inspire children, teens, and families living with type 1 diabetes (T1D). A life-long autoimmune disease in which individuals cannot produce insulin, T1D can be extremely isolating for those living with it. For more than 20 years, Camp Kudzu has provided a variety of year-round programming for kids and families across Georgia, including virtual programming (Camp KudZOOM), day or overnight camps, day or weekend programs, and family-fun days. Demonstrated by research at Clemson University, Kudzu programs make a profound impact. Parents report significant increases in their child’s responsibility, independence, and self-care. Campers report significant increases in self-confidence, self-awareness, social skills, and normalization of their disease from being among their peers.
HOW YOU CAN HELP
Our 1,000-plus Camp Kudzu families we serve each year agree: Kudzu is so much more than camp! Camp Kudzu creates a community where youth with T1D immediately feel at home and understood. While COVID-19 has forced us to be creative with virtual programming and conservative with in-person programming, we know our families will need scholarship assistance like never before. We strive to offer camp regardless of a family’s ability to pay and your donation will help us serve as many campers—virtual and in-person—as possible. Until there’s a cure, there’s Kudzu.
