Herman Cain is the Clarence Thomas of Bob Doles

During last night’s GOP debate, Herman Cain defended himself from sexual harassment charges in a not especially compelling way.

“For every one person that comes forward with a false accusation,” he said, “There are probably thousands who will say that none of that sort of activity ever came from Herman Cain.”

I hope I have the presence of mind to assert this logic next time I get a speeding ticket. “But your honor, the overwhelming majority of my driving experience has not consisted of driving past an elementary school at 65 mph.”

Responding to the same statement, my friend Marjohn Heath was struck by Cain’s use of the third-person for self-defense.  “Herman Cain is the Clarence Thomas of Bob Doles,” she wrote.
