“Why was I not cooking the food I eat at home, you know what I mean?” Pat Pascarella asks as he lounges on a couch in an Ernest Hemingway–themed speakeasy, part of his Italian American concept, Rosso. He speaks of his new restaurant (located near the corner of 10th Street and Virginia Avenue) with the same bullishness of Papa. “I tried doing fancy, trendy dishes for Instagram,” he says. “Now I’m back to the food I want to eat.”

Adjacent to Alici—chef Pat Pascarella’s coastal Italian restaurant in Midtown Promenade—is a new cocktail spot called Bar Pilar. Named after Ernest Hemingway’s boat in “the Old Man and the Sea,” Bar Pilar is intended as a laid-back escape from the hustle and bustle of Midtown.

If all goes well, Siciliano’s will be held monthly and eventually open as a brick and mortar elsewhere in the city. “We are definitely looking to do a sandwich shop in the future. We’re always looking at spaces,” Pascarella says. “We feel the Italian deli scene doesn’t exist yet in ATL, so we're just always trying to do our part.”

Chef Pat Pascarella is welcoming the new year in with a fresh new restaurant called Alici. Named after the Italian word for “anchovy,” Alici is designed to make guests feel like they’re on the Amalfi Coast.

Old names, new restaurants; and pop-ups going permanent—those are the major themes of 2022’s most anticipated restaurants. Here's what to keep an eye out for this year.

Pat Pascarella announced plans bring an Italian oyster bar with risottos to the former F.R.O.G.S. Cantina and Ah-Ma’s Taiwanese Kitchen spaces near Piedmont Park. He's also opening a mozzarella bar in the former Bocado space early next year.
