Chef Nick Melvin's popular Saturday burrito pop-up, Poco Loco, is getting a brick-and-mortar space in Kirkwood. The restaurant is set to open soon in the former Dish Dive space.

I hate hovering servers, but I also don’t want to be completely ignored. One easy way to negotiate the right level of service is the buzzer common in Korean restaurants. Picture a red button mounted next to your table. Push it, and a server materializes, ready to turn down the flame below your sizzling meat, refill your kimchi bowl, or bring you more barley tea.

Jeff Myers and Travis Carroll are launching another new endeavor: Dive Market and Emergency Kitchen, a convenience store with a kitchen. Myers says the shop, located in Reynoldstown, will feel like a cross between Star Provisions and Little's Food Store.

Calling this place a restaurant almost feels too pretentious, given the bare walls and hand-ful of seats. Still, locals flock to the spare space, where you can BYO beer and wine and order a spread of affordable small plates that include shakshuka with fried egg, Green Goddess tagliatelle, and pork belly on leek grits.

I have nothing against pies, but when it comes to the ancient debate pitching pie lovers against cake fanatics, I align myself firmly with the second group.
