Apparently, I’m not the only person who enjoys the process, as there are several you-pick blueberry farms within an hour’s drive of Atlanta. There are so many, in fact, that compiling a list is a bit of a task. The list below includes all the places with a 404, 770 or 678 area code that I could confirm were in operation this summer.
When you go picking, always pack plenty of water and sunscreen. Bring containers to carry your berries home in—and in the rare circumstance that containers aren’t provided for picking, you can use your containers for that, too). I like to bring a big cooler and ice packs, to keep the berries cool on the way home. And don’t forget cash. Some larger operations accept checks and even credit cards, but cash is always safe.
Some farms require you to call before you come; then again, some growers prefer that you don’t call ahead. But because growers often live on the same property as the blueberries, it’s generally a good idea, unless otherwise indicated below, to call first, let them know you’re coming, and ask them about picking conditions. Pricing is for you-pick unless otherwise stated. One gallon of berries weighs approximately 6 pounds.
