Thanks to Atlanta’s status as one of the country’s largest filming hubs (not to mention the thriving music industry and our pro sports teams), it’s not too difficult to have a celebrity encounter. Movie and TV stars are known to stay near Ponce City Market, and it and Krog Street Market have become major star-sighting spots in the past few years. Many actors who arrive in Atlanta to shoot films—think Jon Hamm, Helen Mirren, Robert Downey Jr., Gabrielle Union, Jennifer Lawrence, and Ed Helms, among others—also frequently stay in Midtown and Buckhead, turning many of those neighborhoods’ restaurants (STK, South City Kitchen, Umi) and grocery stores (Whole Foods, Trader Joe’s) into hot spots. Don’t forget the strip clubs: The famous Clermont Lounge has drawn the attention of Lady Gaga, Robert de Niro, Pink, and Woody Harrelson. Mumford and Sons famously got kicked out of the Clermont in 2013 for allegedly breaking the club’s No. 1 rule: no photos.
