You might already know that Zac Posen designed the new Delta uniforms, manufactured by Lands End. But Delta's local collaboration with Spanx was kept mostly under wraps until this week, when the uniforms debuted on flights worldwide.

It’s been nearly a decade since Delta’s uniforms have gotten a lift. Now, the airline is switching out its tired togs for a runway-worthy collection of uniforms designed by iconic American fashion designer Zac Posen, which will be rolling out on the fleet this month. For decades, airlines have battled for a piece of the Atlanta market, where more than 75 percent of the airport’s traffic comes from Delta and its SkyTeam partners. Southwest nabs another 9.5 percent; the others just nibble at the edges. That said, a few arrivistes are looking to create some turbulence. How they stack up against the titan of the tarmac.

Ed Bastian couldn’t be taking the reins at a more fortuitous time. In 2015 Delta turned an astounding $5.9 billion profit, the company’s best year ever. Of course that kind of success creates expectations.

“That kind of trafficking—whether it’s money or guns—within the airport, it creates an additional layer of harm to the community,” says John Horn, U.S. attorney in Atlanta. “The airport is such a huge institution to [Atlanta]; we have the obligation to make sure that it’s safe.”
