O-Ku slated to open in Westside Ironworks October 1

The team behind Colletta and Oak Steakhouse at Avalon have their first in-town restaurant on the way, located on Howell Mill Road in Westside Ironworks. O-Ku will be a Japanese sushi restaurant similar to the Charleston outpost by the same name and is set to open October 1. Owner Steve Palmer says the restaurants will offer different experiences at each.

Where Oak Steakhouse aims to set itself apart from other steakhouses—as the genial, tall, bearded chef Chad Anderson will tell you if he comes by your table—is in its selling only Certified Angus Beef, all of it prime. If you order one of the four “classic steaks,” as I did the ribeye, the server will quickly ask, “Don’t you want the dry-aged?”

Colletta Italian restaurant opens February 5 at Avalon

Steve Palmer, founder of Charleston-based Indigo Road Hospitality, has a new restaurant in the works. Located next to its Oak Steakhouse at Avalon in Alpharetta, Colletta will begin serving pizza and pasta February 5. This will be the group’s second Italian restaurant, and about 40 percent of the menu will be comprised of favorites from Charleston-based Indaco, where Michael Perez is executive chef.
