Atlanta’s first Shake Shack
Shake Shack, the iconic Madison Square Park burger establishment, is coming to Buckhead next year, the Atlanta Business Chronicle reports. It will open in mid-2014 at 3035 Peachtree Road, in the Buckhead Atlanta development planned for luxury retail space. Shake Shack’s local location will serve the burgers, hot dogs, and frozen custard that its Manhattan location has become known for.
Dante’s Down the Hatch closes
Dante Stephensen’s iconic fondue and jazz restaurant in Buckhead has closed, according to Creative Loafing. Atlantic Realty Partners and Behringer Harvard plan to build an apartment complex on the land. The restaurant was originally scheduled to close earlier this year when an initial condo deal fell through.
Folk Art opens
The Wisteria team’s new breakfast and lunch spot is now open, writes UrbanDaddy. Folk Art is located in the same stretch of shops as Wisteria (where Il Localino also resides in Inman Park).
Taste of Atlanta’s 70 restaurants—and counting!
The 12th annual Taste of Atlanta will be October 25 through October 27 at Midtown’s Tech Square. Thus far, the festival has 70 restaurants lined up to participate. This includes newcomers King Duke, Saltyard, Gunshow, BoccaLupo, and Lure, in addition to participants from previous years such as Rosebud and Ray’s on the River.
Jeff Sigler departs from the Lawrence
The Lawrence is down an executive chef yet again after Jeff Sigler departed last week, Eater Atlanta reports. Sigler took over from Jonathan St. Hilaire in January after opening chef Shane Devereux left. No word yet on who will assume Sigler’s position or where Sigler will land.
Southern Chefs Potluck at Serenbe
On Sunday, September 8, Atlanta chefs like Kevin Gillespie, Ford Fry, Linton Hopkins, Anne Quatrano, and Ryan Smith will join together on the grounds of the Inn at Serenbe for the Southern Chefs Potluck, a benefit for Wholesome Wave Georgia. Each chef will prepare a side dish to be served with meats from Jim ‘N Nick’s Bar-B-Q. The event begins at 3 p.m., and tickets cost $125.
Joli Kobe reduces service, loses Mihoko Obunai
The Sandy Springs and Midtown locations of Joli Kobe ceased dinner service last week. Shortly after, Mihoko Obunai announced she was leaving the restaurant and bakery, Eater Atlanta reports.
