“Creator extraordinaire—with an exclamation point!” That’s how artist Tristan al-Haddad describes himself. His most recent work for the Museum of Design Atlanta is “Metro-Poly,” part of the larger “Design for Healthy Living” exhibit.
If you catch one fashion event this week—frankly, this month—let it be tonight’s screening of Versailles ‘73: American Runway Revolution at MODA. The film, which details a historic fashion face-off between American and Parisian fashion designers, premiered at Cannes in 2012, but tonight’s showing is special.
The Ebony Fashion Fair first came to Atlanta in the early 1960s, sponsored in part by the local chapter of Delta Sigma Theta sorority. It was a Sunday-best kind of event, the biggest to-do of the year for some. This month MODA will host an exhibition by the Chicago History Museum, Inspiring Beauty: 50 Years of Ebony Fashion, with forty of these ensembles by designers like Missoni and Givenchy, plus films and other objects.
