Like many small businesses, AB Cookie Co. got its start during the COVID-19 pandemic. But owner-operator Delronda Grant did not start baking out of boredom. Instead, it was a way to process the loss of her beloved mother. In fact, the bakery was named to honor her with the initials AB standing for both her name (Angela Brown) and “absolute best.”
“We put love in each of our cookies,” Grant says.
After selling her cookies online and from a table at the Municipal Market twice a week, Grant opened a full-size stall there in June. Located between City Produce and Phew’s Pies, in the former home of Panbury’s, AB Cookie offers eight to 10 cookie flavors each week, plus cinnamon rolls and peach cobbler. The 3.5-ounce cookies are served warm with milk available for an extra charge. Fan favorites include the Loaded Chocolate Chip with walnuts, oatmeal, and hand-chopped chocolate, and the Banana Pudding cookie topped with white chocolate and vanilla wafer. Specialty flavors like Red Velvet and Strawberry Shortcake rotate weekly, while classics such as peanut butter and oatmeal raisin remain on the menu.

Cookies are baked in house throughout the day, including the signature Brown Butter Chocolate Chip, inspired by Grant’s memory of her great aunt’s cookies. What makes them stand out is the crisp edges and soft center. “I remembered the taste and wanted to recreate it,” Grant says.
At the Municipal Market, the AB Cookie storefront features a wraparound counter with stools for seating. Cookies are sold individually or as part of a three-for-$10 deal. And while the doors stay open until 6 p.m., many days end with a sold-out case. For those who can’t make it in time, nationwide shipping is available.
“I see expansion in our future,” Grant says.
