If you don’t have kids, you’ve likely never heard of Mo Willems. But the prolific children’s book author and illustrator, who has more than 40 titles to his name, is beloved by both tots and their parents for his comedic sensibility and bullseye-accurate insight into the preschool mind. His line drawings—many featuring the Pigeon, star of his now-classic first book, Don’t Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus!—are simple enough for a young reader to copy yet still manage to convey both playfulness and pathos. Through January 2016, the High Museum of Art celebrates Willems’s work in a career retrospective exhibition, Seriously Silly!
