Michelin’s new Southern U.S. guide will include 6 states and Atlanta—but not the rest of Georgia

Michelin launched its Atlanta Guide in 2023, awarding one star to Atlas, Bacchanalia, Hayakawa, Lazy Betty, and Mujo. Last year, O by Brush, Omakase Table, Staplehouse, and Spring received the same recognition. But in 2025, the focus will shift from Atlanta to the Southern region with the announcement of the Michelin Guide American South edition. This will replace the Atlanta Guide for the foreseeable future and cover Alabama, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Atlanta. The rest of Georgia is excluded.

Moving from DeKalb Avenue to Midtown is an excellent business decision for an ambitious chef with a new Michelin star and all that it entails in terms of target audience. The number of dishes on the tasting menu has increased, and so have the prices. I love the new menu (be prepared for slight seasonal changes) and its intentional progression from recognizable to unfamiliar.

By now you’ve certainly heard the news: five Atlanta restaurants boast one Michelin Star, with nearly 40 others receiving other distinctions from the prestigious international dining guide. Atlas, Bacchanalia, Hayakawa, Lazy Betty, and Mujo won big, while other longtime favorites like Aria, Kyma, Rumi’s Kitchen, and Umi were skipped over altogether.
