Serving authentic Chinese food representing the regions of Beijing and Tianjin, Northern China Eatery has been feeding Buford Highway visitors since 2008. Using family recipes passed down through generations, dishes are made from scratch using fresh local produce. Owner Fan Zhang launched spinoff restaurant the Dumpling Factory on the Westside in July. Come February, he’ll open a larger Northern China Eatery along the BeltLine. Located in the Shoppes at Citizen, 665 Auburn Avenue, near the new Emerald City Bagels, the new location is nearly double the size of the original and set to become the flagship, Zhang says.

“The menu will be smaller, but we’ll put the most popular items on there,” Zhang explains. “We’ve learned over the years what people like.” Select new and seasonal items are in development.

Longtime patrons can look forward to soup dumplings, potstickers, Sichuan beef, fried rice, scallion pancakes, spicy griddled fish, stir-fried chicken with garlic sauce, Chinese broccoli, and green beans. The restaurant will be open for lunch and dinner. Unlike the original location, this one will feature a full bar.

Designed with black and beige, dark floors and light wood furniture, the space will welcome up to 88 diners inside with six to eight tables on the covered patio. Reservations will be available.

Zhang is also working on another location of either the Dumpling Factory or Northern China Eatery in Decatur. If all goes according to plan, it will open before the BeltLine spot.
