No. 9: Tomo
Bill Addison

We loved the intimacy of the original Vinings strip-mall location, but chef-owner Tomohiro Naito, who honed his Japanese fusion sensibility in Vegas, always longed for grander, glitzier digs. Naito’s shuffle to the new Ritz-Carlton Residences could not have been better timed: With the closing of MF Buckhead and Bluepointe, Buckhead needed a fresh dose of Asian flavors. Fanciful beauties like uni tempura wrapped in seaweed and minty shiso with tomato-shallot salsa for dipping indeed tempt, but we’re most won over by the simple pleasure of sitting at the sushi bar, enjoying impeccable sushi and sashimi crafted from pristine seafood.
Tomo offers a perfunctory wine and beer list, but the subtlety of Naito's cuisine calls for sake. New to sake? Start with a glass of Hakkaisan, a smooth, clean-tasting example that pairs equally well with seafood or beef.
