Bill "Iron Man of the Peachtree" Thorn ran in 53 consecutive Peachtree Road Races going back to the inaugural year in 1970. He died October 21, 2026 at the age of 96.

This Fourth of July, 60,000 runners will line up near Lenox Square Mall for the 57th iteration of the world’s largest 10-kilometer race. The Fourth of July is my favorite holiday. Not because I’m particularly fond of barbecues, fireworks, or overt displays of patriotism, but because of another Atlanta Independence Day tradition: the Peachtree Road Race.
