Paper Plane’s Paul Calvert, David Sweeney (previously of the Bakery at Cakes & Ale and Dynamic Dish), and the Little Tart Bakeshop’s Sarah O’Brien are hosting a Thankful Harvest Dinner at Octane Coffee in Grant Park November 16. Benefiting the Grant Park Farmers Market, the event will be a German-themed four-course meal with beverage pairings.
“We wanted to avoid Thanksgiving-related food as much as possible,” Sweeney says.
The event, which costs $115 per person and starts at 6 p.m., can accommodate about sixty guests for a “warm, relaxing, family-style and plated meal,” he says.
Ingredients will be supplied by market farmers. Menu items include roasted broccoli soup with benne brittle, Bavarian-style sauerbraten, napkin dumplings, roasted beets with horseradish, orange, and caraway, and a local pecan tart with crème fraiche.
Calvert is serving two cocktails: Tart Breaker (rye whiskey, lemon, campari, pecan, sorghum, and salt), and Mending a Puncture (dry gin, orange, lemon, honey, fresh hops, and tonic), as well as a German Blaufrankish and an Austrian Pinot Blanc. Dessert will be paired with German Marzen beer.
“It’s truly a community-supported event,” Sweeney says.
